After painting Coimbatore red with wall-posters heralding the entry of actor Rajinikanth into politics, his fans in Kovai on Monday launched a political party in an attempt 'to put pressure' on the 'Superstar' to take the political plunge.
Announcing the party's name as Desiya Dravidar Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (DDMMK), they also released the party flag in red, white and black - featuring Rajini's face inside a shining star.
About the new outfit and flag, Rajni Babu, who is a councillor in Madukkarai says that the party had been launched only to impose pressure on their hero to foray politics. We have made this flag and outfit to represent ourselves in the world of politics and wish our leader to make his announcement soon.
Sources close to the actor said, "Rajini was scheduled to discuss the issue of entering politics and starting a party with his fans from 12th to 18th October."
The meeting will take place amid expectations by his fans that he will follow the footsteps of Chiranjeevi, says one of his close friends.

Cinematographer -director Rajeev Menon is back to wield the megaphone. After establishing himself as a successful director with films like, 'Kandukonden Kandukonden' and 'Minsara Kanavu', he chose to go on a hibernation mode only to do a Hindi movie now.
The ace cinematographer, who had worked in Mani Rathnam movies before, will do a Hindi movie which might feature Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in the lead roles. Buzz is that he would be doing the Hindi remake of yesteryear Bollywood hit 'Abhimaan'.
'Abhimaan' featuring Big B and Jayabhadri was about the lives of two popular singers. Since it is a musical film, it looks likely that AR Rahman might be roped in to do the musical score.

Mani's initial shooting suffers hiccups!

Mani Ratnam's Raavan seems to have secretly kick started already. Shooting is underway in the lushly backwaters of Chalakkudi in God's own country, Kerala. Mani shot Prithviraj and Vikram for a few significant scenes.
However, the shooting wasn't devoid of any hiccups, we hear. Mani and
the crew had to wait for a couple of hours until the production incharge mobilized 50 boats required for the shooting. The crew is now camped in Kerala for the first leg of the shoot schedules and further shooting is in progress.
Vikram plays the antagonist, a role inspired by the mythological Hindu character Ravana – where Mani also derived his title.

Kamal Haasan has somehow finally included Asin into his forthcoming magnum opus 'Marmayogi'. Well, though she would be appearing for just 2-3 scenes, her role would be so powerful. Trisha plays the role of Kamal Haasan's second wife and who could be the first one? It is none other than Shriya Charan. Both of them are involved vividly learning in pronunciation of Tamil… Hema Malini performs the role of baddie as she would be donning the character of leader of opponent in rival..
Well, role played by Shobana is yet to be confirmed and Mumaith Khan has been the recent addition to the list of heroines. Telugu actor Venkatesh dons an important character and rest of the star-casts would be soon finalized…

Action star in a unusual sci-fi epic
Posted: 07 Oct 2008 04:57 AM CDT
Vin Diesel in a sci-fi action epic is something new for this star. Based on Maurice G. Dantec's dytopian sci-fi novel Babylon Babies, director Mathieu Kassovitz's film. Babylon A.D will soon have its Indiaan premier.
Diesel plays a mercenary known as Toorop who lives by a simple survivor's code: kill... or be killed. His
latest assignment has him smuggling a young woman named Aurora from a convent in Kazakhstan to New York City. Toorop, his new young charge Aurora and Aurora's guardian Sister Rebeka embark on a 6,000 mile journey. Facing obstacles at every turn, Toorop, the killer for hire, is tested like never before, in ways he could never have imagined - as he comes to understand that he is the custodian of the only hope for the future of mankind.
Babylon has rich atmosphere, impressive sets and action pieces, but the movie is too similar to films such as Children of Men and Doomsday for it to become a trend-setter.

‘Satyam’ puts an end to cop stories in Kodambakkam
Posted: 07 Oct 2008 04:55 AM CDT
It's a fact that most of the heroes of Tamil Cinema including Superstar Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan had won reputation performing cop roles in their flicks. The same trend was followed till the present day younger generation of actors. Yes, Surya who wasn't so good in his career rose to the peaks of glory with his Kaakha Kaakha. Trying to tread across the same style, Vishal hopped on with 'Satyam'. But the results were distressing for Vishal as the film didn't even run in theatres successfully 10 days.
So, the latest buzz in the town is that all those heroes who were eyeing to gear up cop stories where they would perform gymnastics and gimmicks and make audiences fool. But now, with viewers turning out to be more intellectual, almost the entire stardom has decided not to land on cop stories for a while…
