Aditya Music to venture into Tamil Industry Posted: 19 Sep 2008 11:10 AM CDT Aditya Music stepped into the South Indian music market in the late 1990's. Today, it has become the king of Tollywood, creating a niche for itself in the Telugu music industry. The company has now plans to venture into other South Indian markets. Till 1996, Aditya Music was primarily into distributing and marketing the music of other labels for the entire state of AP. Later they acquired their own audio rights to distribute solely. They also started a plant in 2000, to manufacture audio cassettes. Today AM has a catalogue of over 2000 titles and has acquired labels like Shiva Musicals, Leo, Maruti Music, Echo, Pyramid Audio. Presently, AM controls about 80-90 per cent of the Telugu market which is ultimately a huge part with about 150 films releasing in a year. Further biggies like Adnan, Vishal-Shekhar, AR Rahman, Shankar Mahadevan etc… from Bollywood music industry are now making in to Telugu music bolstering as a stronghold. AM recently had some big releases like Venkatesh's 'Chintakayala' Ravi' composed by Vishal-Shekhar, V Samudra's 'Mallepuvvu' composed by Illayraja. And the recent biggest hit for AM is the 'Jalsa' audio. It may not be a surprise if mentioned that the music released through AM, for any new entrant in Tollywood, is a sure way to make it big in music. AM reduced the prices of CDs considerably to Rs.40/- even before five years ago when other players in market were selling them for Rs.200/-. This strategy helped them to stabilize their volumes in spite of the prevailing piracy. The quality of the audio rendered by Aditya Music has been drawing attraction among the customers to opt for this label. The three retail chain outlets located in the twin cities titled 'Sangeet Sagar' are sister concerns of Aditya Music, housing songs from different labels. Future plans prevail for Sangeet Sagar to come up with few more outlets in AP. Managing Director Umesh Gupta was amongst the founder members of the IMI and consequently Aditya Music has been a part of PPL and IPRS for a long time. |
Quality matters – 'Dhanam' Sangeetha Posted: 19 Sep 2008 11:10 AM CDT Sangeetha is happy that 'Dhanam' has won her accolades from various quarters. Though she has not signed any big offers post 'Dhanam', she is confident that she has managed to make an impact on Tamil cinema. Speaking about 'Dhanam', she says, "It is not a practical film, in the sense it may not happen in real life. It is an emotional film. I liked the unpredictability of it all. It is rather difficult to guess what happens next." "I worked very hard. It is a full-length role for the first time. And for a change the film revolved around the heroine." Why she is very choosy? She says, "For me quality matters the most. I don't rush to do movies. I take one after another. If the role is meaty and I have a scope to perform, I agree." |
Trisha’s lessons for Marma Yogi Posted: 19 Sep 2008 10:51 AM CDT News about Marma Yogi, the high budget film produced by Pyramid Saimira, is pouring in every day. It is confirmed that Kamal Haasan will share the screen space with Trisha and Shriya. The photo shoot of this film has also been completed a few days ago. According to industry sources, Kamal has been insisting that Shriya should dub for the film as well. Moreover, Trisha is undergoing a grueling Tamil phonetics class from a Tamil teacher to get her pronunciation right. It is said that Kamal wants her pronunciation to be on par with the ancient Tamil for this period film and would not settle for any imperfections whatsoever. In all probability, Shriya will also undergo this rigorous training, our source adds. |

Shriya’s no to Vettrimaran, yes to Dhanush Posted: 19 Sep 2008 09:35 AM CDT Shriya refused to star with Dhanush in a project that was to be directed by Vettrimaran. The film was to be produced by Kathiresan who had produced the smash hit Polladhavan with the same team. The actress was also given Rs. 50,000 in advance to star in the film. However, owing to other film commitments Shriya felt that she could not star in this project and hence returned the advance to Nadigar Sagam General Secretary Radha Ravi, as Kathiresan refused to accept the same. Meanwhile, the lady seems to have entered into a pact with Gemini Films to star opposite Dhanush. Kathiresan, naturally irked by Shriya's decision, approached the Producers' Council to settle the issue. After looking into the matter Producers' Council President Rama Narayanan has directed Shriya to complete her commitments with Gemini Films and then star in Kathiresan's project. |

Actress Ileana wants what Nayanthara gets! Posted: 19 Sep 2008 06:56 AM CDT It is almost cretin that actress Ileana will act with Ilayathalapathy Vijay in his movie under AVM Balasubramaniam`s production Vettaikaran. Ileana has acted in the movie TamiKD which is just one film in Tamil; however she has acted in Telugu hits such as Pokkiri in Mahesh Babu. She demands the same salary as she gets in Telugu movies, around 1.25 crore. If she get what she is asking for it would equal what Nayanthara`s salary. |
Posted: 19 Sep 2008 06:41 AM CDT Star-casts: Nithin Satya, Sindhu Thoolani, Prakash Raj, Radhika, Dhaamu, Y.Gee. Mahendran and many others.Banner: V V CreationsStory, Screenplay, Dialogues and Direction: S.A. ChandrasekharMusic: Vijay Antony Film buffs including us were quite happy with the recent Tamil releases, 'Saroja', 'Poi Solla Porom' and this week's release 'M3V'. Frankly, these films weren't produced at bigger budgets or inclusive of top-charting actor and actress. Our excitements had no end and we boasted about our talented filmmakers to our friends in other regional film industries. And now, they may start humiliating us after watching Pandhayam. Indeed, the simple words of describing this film would be a great irritation and you would surely get the feel of watching 1980s Telugu film. Well, its fine if there are few punch dialogues in the film. But just imagine, hell losing out with continuous punch dialogues right throughout the film. Nithin Sathya was well received for his naturalistic performance as supporting actor in few films and so was in Chennai 600028. But, getting him depicted in the role of a mass hero is the worst foolishness. S.A.Chandrashekar has only one thing to convince us: Prakash Raj and his clichéd best performance. But Nithin Satya, an inexperienced actor dominating Prakash Raj looks unapt and completely sickening. At the least, one good chance for S.A. Chandrashekar is that he could have roped his son Vijay to play the lead. Might be, Vijay should have refused this offer feeling that would be one more disaster to the queued line up of flops. Sakthi (Nithin Satya) falls in love with Thulasi (Sindhu Thoolani), younger sister of Maasanam (Prakash Raj) a local gangster turned politician. Pretending to be the most diehard fan of Maasanam, Sakthi wins over his confidence. On the parallel, he makes his sister Sakthi fall in love with him. The later sequences reveal how Sakthi unrevealing his identity over the phone with Maasanam challenges that he would make his sister fall in love with him in next 16 days. Now, Maasanam seeks the help of Sakthi who studies in the same class of Thulasi. Rest of the story is how about both get clashed over each other and there is something more mysterious to be unraveled behind the reason of Sakthi challenging Maasanam. An underrated performance by Nithin Satya and there are no words to describe his performance more than this. Prakash Raj appears right throughout the film and keeps winning laurels with his performance. Be it his arrogant activities or his comedy oriented sequences, they are sure to win applause from the audiences. Radhika does a neat job, but it's a worst part on designing her characterization. None of the woman in this world would remain silent after a cruel man forcefully tying marriage knot to her. Remember, he is the same person who killed her brother and father right in front of her eyes. Talk through one's hat is the word to term S.A. Chandrashekar's piece of this work. Dhaamu and Scissor Manohar, their most irritating characters mean nothing to the film and they are merely for sickening purpose. Sindhu Thoolani works well on the quotient of glamour and there is nothing to do with her character other than shaking her legs for songs. Vijay appearing in guest appearance is purely for his fans and his father must have his hope only with couple of scenes where he appears. But over there, he has his son's ideologies spread. Fine! It's a bit of convince for Vijay fans… Technical aspects tots up to another pathetic scenario: immediate cuts and unwanted camera shakes has nothing to offer other than headache, giddiness and nausea. Don't know the reason, why unwanted fade ins and outs, changing tone colors of subjects are used. Preferably, it would have been for the reason that S.A. Chandrashekar wants to prove that he has purchased latest plug-ins of latest editing software. Technical aspects are something to play the psychological aspects of audiences and the director should well understand this. Vijay Antony's music is perfect and lives up to his level. But placement of songs is really one more disaster. A sister of horrific gangster elopes with a young lad and dances in the open ground for 'Surangani'. Audiences are not fools to keep watching this… S.A. Chandrashekar is still working on the same formulas that he tried with his son Vijay in 'Rasigan' and many more. He has to make sure that trend is changing and there would be no welcome for unwanted heroisms and old romance technique of kissing and hugging. It is unimaginable to see the same director who made the best film 'Sattam Oru Iruttarai' and more has directed this film. Bottom - Line: Don't torture yourselves Verdict: "Enna Koduma Sir Ithu" |

A film seeks Sonia Gandhi’s approval Posted: 19 Sep 2008 06:49 AM CDT Director T.D. Kumar and producers Montage International and Das Entertainment have finally won the two-year battle they had been waging against the Censor Board to release their film Sonia. As the title suggests Sonia is loosely based on the life of the UPA Chairperson and Indian National Congress Party Chairman Sonia Gandhi. According to the director, the Censor Board had directed him to seek permission from Sonia Gandhi before releasing the film. On a petition filed by the producers at the Bombay High Court it was held that the Cinematograph Act does not require personal approval. It was further held that the order passed by the Censor Board was against the fundamental rights of self expression. T.D. Kumar noted that Sonia is neither a defamatory nor critical film. Wonder what that film is all about? Well, to know that we have to wait till December 9th, the day set for the film's release. Incidentally, December 9th also happens to be Sonia Gandhi's birthday. |

After a brief sabbatical, the team will be taking off to Australia in the first week of October. Anjaadhe Prasanna will star in Kavasam directed by Shakthi. However, the crux of the news is that the recently-wed Sibiraj will play the antagonist. S.S. Kumar debuts as the music director for the Srikanth-starrer Poo. However, scoring music for the movie is only a part-time occupation for Kumar, as he is employed with the Central Government. That's one smart idea, we say. Prithviraj-Priyamani had an Onam release 'Thirakkada' in Kerala. Recently, spotted at the Four Frames Theatre for the movie's special show, Ms. Mani was confident about the movie's success and said that the story deals with real-life incidents that happened 25 years ago. |
