‘Thalaivan Irukkinran’ is ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’ now
Posted: 09 Apr 2009 08:33 AM PDT
A sneak preview of the film has been made available, and it features only Kamal Haasan in a bearded look with spectacles like he was in 'Nammavar'. The film, a remake of the Bollywood super hit 'A Wednesday', is jointly produced by his Raj Kamal Films and UTV. The film has him playing the role of Naseerudin Shah's and Mohanlal does Anupam Kher's role. Music for 'Unnaipol Oruvan' is by none other than Kamal's daughter, Shruthi Haasan, and the trailer of the film has her humming in the background.
Chakri Toleti, the boy who played the child in Kamal's film, 'Salangai Oli', is debuting as the director through this film. Interestingly, Chakri also played the role of Kamal's friend Ram in 'Dhasavatharam'.

But that's not all. The actor has donned the role of 'Periyar' once again. This time, it is for a song in Thankar's current project, 'Kalavadiya Pozhudhugal'. This film stars Prabhu Deva as a hero and has one song in which 'Periyar' is said to be revisiting the state again. For this, Thankar had approached Sathyaraj, who readily agreed to it.
"I feel so happy in fact to act as Periyar again and I have also asked Thangar a favor for which he never paid heed (Laughs). I have a long term dream to get into the role of Karl Marx I hope that my dream will come true one day" He adds. The actor tonsured his head to play Periyar just for that song, which has been penned by Vairamuthu. Sathyaraj says he would like to give way for youngsters to play heroes and will take up roles like Sivaji's in 'Devar Magan' or Amitabh in Sarkar. As a result of that, he has agreed to do a Telugu film as well, in which he is said to be playing Trisha's dad.

Talking about Vijay, I have to say that I myself am a huge fan of his. His acting and dancing histrionics have taken my breath away. The very fact that a nearly 35 year-old father of two has so much zest, energy and 'youngness' is utterly impressive. But then again, a lot of things must be corrected about this celebrity if his films were to ever reach an international level that is beyond just commercial success within Tamil Nadu.
1. Selection of Scripts/Stories/Screenplay - Look at his movies over the past few years. All were commercial, typical run-of-the-mill masala potboilers. All except ATM and Sachien. And this may not be largely attributed to just Vijay's lack of taste for scripts, but also to his fan's non-acceptance of him in non-action related roles. Vijay's selection of script is largely in contrast to that of Suriya's. The contrast is Entertainment Vs Quality. This does not mean one should compromise one for the other. Both should be major aspects of a movie's success, but one should not overpower the other. When Vijay did Sachien, I thought his acting was cute, awesome and natural. Sadly, the movie bombed at the box office. But when he took on the monotonous roles in Thirupachi, Gillie and Pokkiri, they ruled the roost. Of course it is well-known that even his fans could not save him from the immensely ridiculously plotted Kuruvi, Villu and Aadi. So it must be admitted that even his fans give more importance to story than Vijay himself. So he should probably stop making movies that he thinks will and should cater to his fans, and not bank on his star power all the time. Vijay badly needs counseling on selecting the right scripts that are able to show more of acting skills rather than his larger-than-life image. And remakes are not the way to do it. The Vijay that we saw in Thullatha Manamum Thullum, Sachien and Madura needs to come back - and that too badly. Gautham Menon, Shankar, Mani Ratnam are the directors that could probably give his career a saving grace.
2. Looks, Styling, Wardrobe - Vijay's idea of fashion is highly pitiful and lousy. His sense of dressing and unkempt looks are a put off. He needs a hair stylist urgently and that too a good one. He should take dressing tips/lessons from Korean Drama Actors. Honestly, Vijay's lack of style in terms of wardrobe shows him off as anything but a superstar. He looks dirty and messy, a look that he thinks that his fans probably love or accept, but this look is so internationally unfriendly. It simply lacks standards. His dressing in the second half of Villu was stylish, but his unkempt looks cancelled this style out. He tried to put on a playboy image but simply failed to. His Ramarajan colored bellbottom pants were prevalent only in the 80's but he refuses to give them up. The ugly chest-hair and beard are all minus points. Being in Singapore and living with other races, it is hard to show off to my Chinese and Malay friends what my favorite Tamil Hero looks like because although Vijay is so strikingly youth-looking and handsome, his lack of grooming plays him out. Whereas Chinese and Malay heroes are so well-groomed even though they may not be as good-looking. This tells the lack of international standards. The title of Vijay's next movie Vettaikkaran suggests another typical commercial potboiler, with no promise of difference that he promises in every other movie before its release
3. Personality - Being a celebrity, one must be paparazzi friendly. Vijay fails in this aspect. He likes to show himself off as a reserved and quiet personality, which I think should change. Close and friendly interactions with the media are tools to career success and support. The recent video of Vijay blowing his top at a cleaner during a press meet might have sparked some curiosity about his true character - whether he is the type that can accept defeat or not. The incident had occurred because he was being questioned about the flop of Villu. And it amazes me that he, being a big star, could not see this coming because even if not for the story, so many technical aspects of Villu were illogical. The stunt sequences were just beyond belief. Especially one sequence where the speedboat goes underwater. Even three-year old kids wouldn't believe such a phenomenon.
Overall, there is a lot of things that Ilayathalapathy needs to correct about himself and his selection of films. If he is going to continue with the flow of movies with dappanguthu songs, nonsensical fight sequences, punch dialogues, disgusting kuppathu lungi dances that supposedly "SATISFY" his fans, he might not go very far. This article is written solely as my opinion and is not intended at hurting Ilayathalapathy Vijay or his die-hard fans. Nevertheless, I believe that being a celebrity, one should learn to accept criticisms as much as compliments and improve. Internationalism is the need of the hour for Vijay, and it should just not stop with his song and movie scenes that are taken overseas.

Ananda Thaandavam Movie Press Meet Stills
Posted: 09 Apr 2009 05:13 AM PDT
With Ananda Thaandavam – an Aascar Ravichandran film that was eagerly awaited by many – releasing on April 10th, its crew met with the media, briefing about their film and its X factor that separates it from the other run-of-the-mill entertainers.
The X factor: It is a film based on late writer Sujatha's novel Pirivom Santhippom, written 25 years ago with a bold theme for the then readers. Though the theme transcends time, director Gandhi Krishna has made some changes – with permission from Sujatha – while adapting the novel for silver screen seven years ago.
The Wednesday's Ananda Thaandavam press meet was a colourful event with beautiful Tamannah Bhatia, Rukmani (of Bommalattam fame), hero Siddharth, villain Rishi, director Gandhi Krishna and music director G.V. Prakash participating in it.
Anyone who listened to Tamannah speak at the meet would watch this movie more than once to check out why she was so eager to act in it! The actress talked so highly of the film, its director and described how she readily agreed to act in the film just by listening to the gist of the story! Following her, Rukmani stated that she considers her being part of this movie as one of rare chances that an artist is bestowed with in the world of cinema. Actor Rishi too had similar opinions and expressed his thankfulness to the director. Siddharth observed that acting in a film based on Sujatha's novel will be his career best highlight forever. G.V. Prakash said that no other film than Ananda Thaandavam gave his songs matching and splendid visuals and thanked the director for that.
When Gandhi Krishna spoke, he thanked the producer Aascar Ravichandran for his support and efforts to shoot the film extensively in USA, the story's backdrop. Thanks to the producer's effort and director's 2-year meticulous work in adapting the novel to screenplay, Sujatha's wonderful novel Pirivom Santhippom will come alive on silver screen.

The set-side report is that while the exacting and strict director wants Ash to go bare faced, the beauty queen seems to be having a tough time sticking to instructions. She manages to sneak on to the set with minimal make-up. But the eagle-eyes Ratnam is quick to spot that her face has been done up. With neither of the big icons backing down, this one struggle promises to grow longer than Hanuman's tail. The film is expected to be ready for release in 2010.
Tamanna’s visits prove uplifting

Tamanna was apparently very excited about the film and wanted to know how it fared among the audience. The actress said that she wanted to see the film among the audience and hence visited a theatre in
Pollachi. Speaking to the reporters, Tamanna said that it was a very exciting experience to see the fans going in raptures for every scene including the first fight.
The actress also stated that she saw the film in a theatre near her home in Mumbai and this also proved to be a good experience because a lot of Tamilians had turned up for the show.
Shankar’s flick – no horror but supernatural
Posted: 09 Apr 2009 04:39 AM PDT
According to Naga, the film will not create a fear as the horror films are supposed to do, but the audience will
leave the theatres wishing for such a supernatural being in their homes. It is the goodness of this spirit that is highlighted in the film, he added. Ananthapurathu Veedu stars Nanda, Chaya Singh and Master Aryan.

Will Murali strike Gold in 4th innings?
Posted: 09 Apr 2009 03:51 AM PDT
But after every hit film I go for a big gap.. As a matter of fact, this is my 4th and now when youngsters are rocking in town, I had a great doubt whether I can succeed. At that point of time, I got to heed this beautiful script that gave me more hopes'. At the moment, Murali's son 'Adharva' has also debuted in 'Baana' that will soon hit the screens.
Sneha Vs - Kotta Srinivasa Rao-Sampath-Manoj K Jayan
Posted: 09 Apr 2009 04:26 AM PDT
The most happening part of the film is that there are three big baddies. Well, versatile performers Kotta Srinivasa Rao, Manoj K Vijayan and Sampath are those taking on for these roles. Looks like, it would be a roller-coaster action packed roles.

Adding more, Sakthi says that he narrated the script to Sibiraj and within 30mins the actor accepted to don the negative role. With Prasanna taking on for the protagonist role, 'Thee' fame Raakini along with Yasmine perform female lead roles. Plans are to release the film by mid of June once the big tickets are out from the theatres.
Geetha Krishna’s signature style
Posted: 09 Apr 2009 03:40 AM PDT
The director has to his credit quite a lot of films that were huge hits way back in the 80s. He has also been associated with stalwarts like director K. Vishwanath and Padma Shri Kamal Haasan in films like 'Saalangai Oli' and Sippikul Muthu' which gave a new dimension to the way films were made in Tamil.
The director has also made his mark in the Telugu and the Kannada film industries as well. Yet another noteworthy factor of Geetha Krishna is his choice of music composer. The director is an ardent fan of Isaygnani Illayaraja that he makes sure all his film have music from the mastero.
Now about his latest film, 'Nimidangal' is being made as a trilingual film in Tamil, Telugu as well as Kannada. The film is being produced by his production house Blue Fox Cinema. The Telugu version of this film has been titled 'Coffee Bar', and Mr. Krishna is yet to find an apt title for its Kannada version.
'Nimidangal' too will have music from Illayaraja. One more highlight of this film is the deployment of the Red Eye camera, which deploys high-end technology. Also the director has got two best people as his cinematographers. Murali, who has completed his cinematography course from a notable institute in New York; the other is the already famous M.V. Raghu.
We wish Geetha Krishna as well as the entire team of 'Nimidangal' all success!
