Not for nothing has producer Thanu earned himself the tag of Kalaipuli. Widely acknowledged as a pioneer in marketing his films, he has splurged for his three-year project 'Kanthaswamy', starring Vikram and Shriya.
"This is a film made with international standards. Which is why we have planned on releasing it abroad in foreign languages as well. The film, I can so confidently state, will create history and will break records that I don't mind if it is my last film," said Thanu. Incidentally, 'Kanthaswamy' marks his silver jubilee year in the area of production. "I want this film to be famous not just nationally, but internationally. It is for this reason that I'm planning to telecast trailers of the film on the big screen in the stadiums during the IPL series. It costs Rs 25 lakhs for 1-minute, but I'll still go ahead and do it to give my stars international recognition," he said.
Speaking about the movie, he emphasized that it thoroughly was director Susi Ganesan's movie. "The film is completely his hard work. He has spent three years thinking of nothing else and the victory of the movie will belong to him and the whole team," Thanu said.
The film is said to have cost over Rs 30 crore and the producer is spending a fortune promoting his film. It is times of recession and the producer has still dared to spend so much. Let's only hope the recession times don't make it that bad that it really turns out to be Thanu's last film as he has all his hopes heaped on it.

Arundhati – Kodi Ramakrishna’s Madras connection

Posted: 03 Apr 2009 04:16 AM PDT

It has been almost two weeks since Arundati got released in Chennai, but the film is doing business as though it got released only yesterday! It sells like hot cross buns! Ramanarayanan has proved that his business acumen is sharp and he can mint money out of it! The Telugu blockbuster directed by Kodi Ramakrishna witnessed an opening that no other Telugu film dubbed in Tamil received and is going great like as though it is running on all cylinders!

The latest buzz is that the film will soon be dubbed in Sinhalese and screened all over Sri Lanka!
The film registers almost 50 shows every day in the main Chennai's main sectors alone and all of them are houseful shows! All this has added to the grip strength of Anushka on South Indian market! It looks like Anushka is here to stay!
The wonder is Kodi Ramakrishna, the director of the film, has already given certain blockbusters which did unbelievable business dubbed in Tamil. For example years ago Iduthanda Police, which was the dubbed version of Ankusham starring Dr. Rajasekhar and directed by Kodi, grossed tremendous collections at the box office. Similarly, Amman, which was the dubbed version of Ammoru, did good business and also attracted the audience's attention for immaculate special effects. In fact, it served as an example to several other movies which followed in its trail.
Looks like Kodi has a special connection with Tamil Nadu, especially Madras (Chennai)!

Sanjana plays the other heroine.

Happy birthday Prabhu Deva

Posted: 03 Apr 2009 04:03 AM PDT

His anatomy-defying body and gravity defying movements are easily Prabhu Deva's biggest pride. But he didn't stop with that. Exploring as an actor, this choreographer is also a director today to reckon with.
Dancing wasn't a lot more than prancing around trees when Prabhu Deva entered the scene in the 1980s. Yet, he made heads turn at the way he danced, like in a uniquely folksy number like Laalakku Dol Dappima in 'or the stylish cowboy song Mukala Mukabala in 'Kadhalan'.
Referred to often as our Michael Jackson, Prabhu Deva has choreographed award winning moves of many an actor, from Rajinikanth to Hrithik Roshan to Vijay, and is a two-time recipient of the National Award. His directorial ventures have set the box office on fire in both Telugu and Tamil, as he awaits the release of his 'Pokkiri' in Hindi also now.
Prabhu Deva is the only hero to have featured alongside Apache Indian in a song in 'Love Birds'. He courts international fame to this day through his song in 'Pennin Manadhai Thottu', Kalloori Vaanil. The song has a record set of hits in YouTube, and he is popularly referred to among foreigners as Benny Lava, with many pop stars trying to ape him.

Karthik Raja croons for Yuvan

Posted: 03 Apr 2009 04:13 AM PDT

Perhaps Yuvan has plans to pull off a coup of sorts, having famous musicians sing to his tunes! After making dad Illayaraja lend his steely voice for a few songs, and approaching Rahman twice to sing for him, Yuvan Shankar Raja has made his brother Karthik Raja sing for a song in '16'.
'16', directed by Sabapathy, has Mirchi Siva in the lead, with new comer Madhu Shalini playing his love. Produced by Siva Sankar, it has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
The movie has an important song in the flashback portion for which Yuvan considered Karthik's voice to be ideal. And Karthik, on his brother's request, has recorded the song.
Karthik Raja himself, who many in the industry acknowledge as a musical genius, is hoping for a good break with his current project, through Thamira's 'Rettaisuzhi'. Karthik Raja has many popular tunes to his credit, including those in movies 'Kadhala Kadhala', 'Ullasam' and 'Dum Dum Dum'.
