The Mukherjee-Samarth family is a Bengali-Marathi family that has been involved in the Indian Bollywood film industry since the 1940s. The Mukherjee family was connected to the Samarth family by Tanuja's (Kajol's mother) marriage to Shomu Mukherjee in 1973.
Kajol's cousins Rani Mukerji, Sharbani Mukherjee and Mohnish Behl are also Bollywood actors. Kajol's younger sister Tanisha Mukherjee has recently started a film career.
Kajol married Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan on February 24, 1999. On April 20, 2003, she gave birth to a daughter named Nysa, which means Goddess of purity.
