KURUVI

This movie has kindled a lot of interest, primarily because this is Dharani's follow-up directorial venture with Vijay and Trisha after the smart, action packed super hit Ghilli. This ‘Action-Adventure’ also promises to be a scorcher, judging by the theme song and the unusually fast paced, rhythm oriented songs composed by the usually melody-conscious Vidyasagar!

Dasavatharam Updates

By Behindwoods News Bureau.
April 21, 2008

Nearly every Kamal film has required extensive makeup but nothing like Dasavatharam. It took nothing less than three hours each for the star to put on make up and take it off. And he had to sit still for the entire process. And this time it wasn't only Kamal who had to undergo this ordeal but actor Napoleon who plays a King in the film, who required make up that took more than four hours.

Dasavatharam

If you thought that was fun, wait till you hear the kind of time editing and postproduction demanded: there are several scenes that require different Kamal Hassans to appear together. Though the different costumes and make up were shot on different locations, to bring them together the post production crew and the director had to spend thrice the number of hours at the studio. For instance, it is reported that director K.S. Ravikumar had to view each frame 1000 times to make sure that everything about it matched! Well, we're sure all the effort was worth it, and something spectacular awaits us.

Magesh, Saranya, Matrum Palar - Youthful extravaganza

After making a splashing debut in 'Thottal Poo Malarum', Sakthi, son of veteran director P Vasu, is gearing up with his next. The movie is titled uniquely as 'Mahesh, Saranya Mattrum Palar'. As the title suggests, he plays a happy-go-lucky youngster Mahesh and Sandhya plays Saranya, his ladylove.

Produced by Kool Productions, the movie is directed by V Ravi, a former associate of director Lingusamy. Sakthi is happy to be part of the movie. He says, "After 'Thottal Poo Malarum', I had several scripts coming my way. However I was very choosy and wanted my next to be more youthful and enterprising. When Ravi narrated the story, I was so impressed that I readily agreed to do it". Ravi has written the story, screenplay and dialogues too for the film.

According to Ravi, 'It is a youthful entertainer. Both Sakthi and Sandhya are young and vibrant. I feel they are apt to play the lead roles. It is a routine romantic story but narrated with a difference'. The highlight of the movie is its music by Vidyasagar. Says Ravi, "I am a great fan of Vidyasagar. When I decided to do a movie, I immediately decided to approach him. In spite of his busy schedule, he was kind enough to accept my offer. He happily accepted to compose music for the movie 'Mahesh, Saranya, Mattrum Palar'."

Dasavatharam deals in environment, science and religion

Kamal is busy with the post production work and the audio launch of Dasavatharam. Amidst his busy schedule, he took time off to talk about this much coveted project to a popular daily ¬– The Hindu. In the interview with Malathi Rangarajan, he says that his story telling techniques are time tested and would keep it simple.

Dasavatharam

For the first time, the actor lets us know what Dasavatharam is about putting all speculations to rest. He disclosed that the film deals with environment, science and religion. In his own words, "Dasavatharam has a lot of Al Gore in it, and also Ramanujar." It is also interesting to note Kamal's statement that has explored religion at great length in the film.

Having penned the story, screenplay and dialogues, Kamal said that working on the screenplay was the toughest part, as the subject itself was very complex. This out of the ordinary story line should be another reason to draw the crowds to the theaters. source behindwoods

Ajith and Nayanthara under surveillance

Ajith and Nayanthara under surveillance

Aegan, the current project of Ajithkumar being directed by dance master Raju Sundaram is getting canned at a steady pace. After completing shooting at overseas locations, the unit is currently stationed at Vizag and is quickly wrapping up the schedule there. Director has chosen Vizag so as to avoid the crowd that generally throngs around the lead stars here. However he has been proved wrong and the shooting spot at Vizag is being continuously visited by fans of both Ajith and Nayanthara who are very popular.

Fans are very eager to take pictures with their favorite stars and talk to them and spend time with them. As a result shooting gets interrupted. Having found it an uphill task to protect the lead stars from the fans, director has opted for a private security that will be in charge of the star’s protection and ensure that the shooting proceeds smoothly.

Fw: A World of Cinema - Dasavadharam

'Dasavadharam': Truly a world cinema!

IndiaGlitz

There is a thrill in going on and on without knowing when the end is. This is synonymous with the 'Dasavadharam' team. The story was started filming a couple of years back and is still going on in full swing with full co-operation from the cast and crew.

That itself is a mammoth task that has been achieved by the 'Dasavadharam' team. We have heard about the stunts, we have heard about the tusnami, but hang on as there is more coming up on the 'Dasavadharam' front and we promise to bring you hot and spicy stories straight from the sets of 'Dasavadharam'.

The national award winning art director Thotta Tharani describes about the difficulty they faced creating a set of the Oval Office. Yes we are talking about the President's Office at the White House that was created on the make-believe sets for 'Dasavadharam'.

The art director had no models to lean back for support but only pictures of the White House that they could secure from various sources. The art team started working on the pictures and created a look-alike of the Oval office with perfection that they received words of praise from the Consul General, David Hopper.

The producer of the film Oscar Ravichandran revealed that a major share of the funds have been diverted to the making of the film and the special effects rather than to the actors or the directors, and is all praise for how the film has shaped up so far. He is also believed to have mentioned that what started as a Tamil film has attained the heights of world cinema, thanks to all the cast and crew and everyone associated with the film.

    'Dasavatharam': Frame by Frame
    IndiaGlitz [Monday, April 07, 2008]
'Dasavatharam' promises to be a break through in Tamil filmmaking in many ways. Apart from Kamal Haasan’s awesome portrayal of ten different roles, there is much to rave about, including computer graphics and stunning stunts.

The movie has been a unique experience for the experienced director K.S. Ravikumar. “I have worked a great deal to put the entire film together”, says the director. “I used to watch my movies at least ten times before they hit the theatres. I have watched every frame (a one second shot comprises 24 frames) of this film almost a 1,000 times to bring in the harmony between the scenes”, he adds.

Ravikumar explains why such a meticulous attention is required: “If one frame has 3-4 characters then it would mean that I would have to shoot the background separately and the characters separately and ensure that everything comes together cohesively on screen. Apart from that, I have also monitored the dubbing of this movie very closely, something which I have not done for any of my films before.” So, Ravikumar would have watched the movie 1,000 times by the time the film hits the screens.

The unit had done a lot of research before executing the scene that happens during the 12th century. Ravikumar, Kamal, and other team members wanted to make it realistic and credible and hence the research became so important.
Going by these information one can be sure that the movie ‘Dasavatharam’ would be first of its kind in Tamil films in many respects

    Robot producer dreams bigger

No entertainment company has created as wide a global platform for Indian cinema as Eros International. They operate in over 50 countries, releasing more than 35 new films globally every year in English, Hindi and Tamil. But more significantly, it has a library (which is growing rapidly by the day) of films that total more than 1900 titles.

And now Eros has just signed a 3-year content licensing deal with Aksh Optifibre Ltd (a large-scale manufacturer of cable and optical fibre) on an upfront fee plus revenue share basis. Through this agreement Eros' Bollywood content will be distributed on A-Tel, Aksh's IPTV platform.

This will be a video on demand service, allowing A-Tel subscribers access to Bollywood movies in the comfort of their homes. In addition to movies, they will air music videos, new film promos, celebrity interviews, and award nights. "The collaboration with Eros International, said A-Tel's MD, Dr. Choudhari, "is to provide world class entertainment to our A-Tel subscribers."

In turn, Ms. Jyoti Deshpande, Commercial director of Eros International, spoke of the agreement, saying, "Eros is a leading pioneer in new media initiatives within the Indian Entertainment sector and is pleased to be providing Aksh with a movie service for their IPTV platform, leveraging our blockbuster film content."

    Yaaradi Nee Mohini Movie Review

Starring: Dhanush, Nayantara, Raguvaran, Karthick, Karunas, Mano Bala

    Direction: Jawahar

    Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja

    Production: R.K. Productions

'You guys going to work?" asks a distressed and unemployed Karunas - accompanied by Dhanush - to a few girls waiting in the bus station. There you have the  Danush plot: a jobless youngman, his love-at-first-sight, a far from considerate and a subject-of-abuse father, and a love embroiled in an inconsiderate relationship. Yaaradi Nee Moghini is smartly packaged with everything inevitable in a Dhanush movie. With subdued emotions that hardly ever go overboard and in your face humor, director A. Jawahar gets everything right. Well, almost.

Dhanush is a happy go lucky guy desperately in search of a job despite his bare minimum qualifications. One of those job-search episodes makes him catch a glimpse of Nayan who works for a software company. Dhanush falls instantly in love and luck favors him to secure a job in the same company, much to his delight, in Nayan's team.

While Dhanush nurtures his love for Nayan secretly, she turns a blind eye considering his lack of education and proper upbringing. And when he reveals his feelings, Nayan turns him down, further humiliating his father Raghuvaran, leading to death. Although secretly in love with Dhanush, Nayan, considering her orthodox Brahmin background, decides to be married to Karthick instead. The wedding has already been planned by her parents. However, in the end, she expresses her love to Dhanush the night before the wedding. Now it is for Dhanush to decide whether to accept the love that cost him so dearly or to turn his back and pretend to lead a normal life.

Dhanush has immense scope in a role that is tailor-made for him and he pulls it off with consummate ease. Be it as a distraught jobless youngster or a love struck man craving for the impassive dream girl, the job couldn't have fit anyone else this well. Nayan dispels her bombshell act and proves that she can more than just that. She breaks into tears when needed, shows vicious contempt when rubbed the wrong way in the name of love, and looks endearing in songs.

Raghuvaran's performance deserves a standing ovation and is a proof of how magnificent an actor he was. Ironically, there are scenes in the movie that has Dhanush perform Raghu's last rituals that will reduce a viewer to tears.

The humor goes with the flow, and scenes like the whole family of a dozen's trip to the textile shop in a single vehicle is sure to bring the house down. Karunas establishes that Dhanush brings the best out of him yet again. Remember Polladhavan? However, it is hard not to frown, and often sneer, at the dialogue since it has B & C center audience written all over it.

Director Jawahar has neatly packaged the movie with less melodrama that is surprisingly tad unusual for a movie that focuses on a love story of a girl hailing from an orthodox family. Yuvan's rerecording breathes life into the movie. So do the songs. Three of them linger long after you have left the theatre. Special mention must be made of the item number performed by a desi Shakira in the train that averts folks from sneaking out of the halls for a smoke. Kudos to the cinematographer who has captured Australia's vibrant landscape breathtakingly. Bhaskar's editing helps keep up the pace of the movie.

If you do not mind the usage of crude language, especially between a father and a son, and the dialogues in general that seem a little bent towards a B and C center audience, you are in for a total treat in the Dhanush brand style.

    INBA Movie Review

Starring: Shaam, Sneha, Arun Pandian, Ganja Karuppu, Aravind AkashDirection: S T VendhanMusic: P.B Balaji
    Production: K S Vasantha ராணி

At a time when Tamil cinema is experiencing an awakening of sorts, there is no dearth of movies that make the movie-making strategies of the eighties look far superior. Inba is one of them. The Sneha – Shyam starrer (we agree that they are a cute couple, however, their chemistry doesn't seem to be working at the box office) directed by S.T. Vendan is simply old juice in a not-so-new bottle. The sappy and behind the times storyline and an equally irksome script provide neither amusement nor என்டேர்டைன்மேன்ட்.

Shyam plays a wrongly-led young man employed by a gangster (Arun Pandian) as his sister’s (Sneha) bodyguard. He used to be a bright kid at school who was misled by a deceptive love that ended in an unintentional murder. Shyam, blamed for the death, is sent to a juvenile home and spends the golden years of his adolescence in confinement. Upon release, as is an unwritten rule in the Tamil cinema bible, he joins the local criminal gang led by Arunpandiyan. As pronounced by the subsequent golden rules of the same bible, the inevitable love blooms between him and the beautiful Sneha. The love story, predictably, derails when Sneha is wooed by the Police Commissioner’s brother. The Commissioner strikes a lucrative deal with Arunpandiyan and promises to write off the cases against him if his brother gets Sneha’s hand in marriage. Inba thus treads the beaten path and ends up in a rather banal climax.

There’s little to rejoice about in this painfully tiresome ordeal, except Sneha’s endearing charm in the song sequences. But then, there are myriad ways to watch these songs other than sitting through a two and a half hour tribulation. Sneha’s paid to look good and does just that. However, Shyam is deprived even of this. His bearded look does not alter his personality, and he looks out of place in the role that requires him to be rugged.
The director’s own perplexity with the film’s progress is glaringly evident, as the actors appear trapped in an unpromising venture. And the movie does not score technically either.

    'Dasavatharam': Directorial Tasks

Kamal Haasan's 'Dasavadharam', which is expected to be a different experience on celluloid for the fans, critics and the general public, has been a unique experience for the director as well. K.S. Ravikumar, who has handled almost all the leading stars in the field and has given number of hits in his career, feels that nothing would match 'Dasavadharam' in its grandeur and novelty.

Budget wise, the film is ten times higher than any film K.S. Ravikumar has done so far. Cast wise, the film demands working with more North Indian and foreign technicians. Since the film is to be released in Hindi and Telugu simultaneously, he needs to get inputs from the perspective of those languages.

As far as technicians are concerned, the film has roped in many technicians from Hollywood. Around 45 persons came from the US and they trained our local technicians, inform the director. For the action sequences, different equipments and special frames were used.

Bryan from Los Angeles was brought in for the visual effects of the movie. Ravikumar says that Bryan has almost become like a South Indian now. "He can't live without Idly, Vada, and Pongal", he adds with laugh.
